DPW Chair Ben Wikler: “Trump is Putting Health Care on the Ballot in 2020”
Democratic Party Slams Trump & GOP Ahead of Oral Arguments in Lawsuit to Repeal ACA
MADISON — Ahead of the GOP’s oral arguments in their lawsuit to make coverage for preexisting conditions unconstitutional, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler spoke out yesterday against the Trump-GOP lawsuit that would repeal the Affordable Care Act.
“With this lawsuit, Trump and the GOP are putting health care on the ballot in 2020,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler. “Trump and the GOP have been obsessed with taking away our health care for years, and they’re not stopping now. Today they’ve doubled down on their plan to raise costs and cut access for millions.”
The GOP lawsuit, which Wisconsin backed until Gov. Evers and AG Kaul removed Wisconsin from the suit in March, would completely repeal the ACA, gutting protections for 2.4 million Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions. The results of a complete repeal of the ACA would be catastrophic, increasing the national uninsured rate by 65% and jacking up out-of-pocket costs for premiums and prescription drugs.
While Trump’s pushes to repeal the ACA have so far been unsuccessful, his repeated attempts to sabotage Wisconsinites’ health care has caused chaos in the insurance marketplace and raised premiums by 38%.
“Trump’s health care agenda has been one of blatant sabotage and broken promises,” added Wikler. “When Wisconsinites go to the polls in 2020, they will know who stood up for their health care and who spearheaded efforts to rip their care way.”
