MADISON — A new report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel provides even more evidence of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir‘s support for gutting coverage protections for people who have pre-existing conditions.
Vukmir is campaigning on repealing the Affordable Care Act — touting herself as the deciding vote to repeal the law and gut its protectionsfor Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions, a sentiment that was similarly echoed by Vice President Mike Pence, who said in August that Republicans will “go back to” trying to gut pre-existing condition coverage protections “with Leah Vukmir in the Senate.”
Throughout her time in Wisconsin’s state legislature, Vukmir repeatedly sided with insurance companies at the expense of Wisconsinites, consistently opposing measures that would have required insurers to cover various conditions and treatments, ranging from mental health care and oral chemotherapy to autism and hearing aids for children.
Now, as in 2011, Vukmir supports gutting coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions and returning to the days when insurance companies could write their own rules and unfairly jack up prices on sick people.
