Statement on Passing of Marlys Matuszak, Information on Memorial Service

Feb 10, 2008

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke released the following statement today on the passing of longtime party activist Marlys Matuszak. Please see below for information on the memorial service.

“Today we mourn the loss of an incredible activist, an amazing person and a dear friend – Marlys Matuszak.

“From chairing the party, to running Congressman Dave Obey’s very first campaign, to serving as the 7th CD Chair, Marlys gave so much of her life to this party and the ideals that we fight for. She advised chairs, helped candidates across the state, and was the authority on party operation.

“She traveled to county party and administrative committee meetings across the state, and until she became ill, never missed one. She started working for Democrats at the age of 14 and never quit – always standing out as an incredibly committed, talented and hard-working activist.

“Every year at our Eleanor Roosevelt tribute, we will honor her through the Marlys Matuszak Statewide Impact Award. She will remain an inspiration for years to come.

“We have lost an activist, a party chair, an advisor, and a cherished friend. We will move forward working to echo just some of the energy and commitment Marlys brought with her every day.”
