DPW Chair Wineke Names Jason Stephany Executive Director

Feb 23, 2009

MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Joe Wineke announced today that he will appoint Jason Stephany as the new Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, effective March 15, 2009. The announcement follows outgoing Executive Director Jessica Erickson’s appointment as Executive Assistant at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

”Jessica has been instrumental in helping Democrats achieve historic victories in Wisconsin and she will be greatly missed,” said Wineke. “I wish her the best in her new position at the Department of Workforce Development, and I know that the citizens of Wisconsin will benefit greatly from her talents.”

Jason Stephany brings a wealth of campaign and advocacy experience to the position, most recently serving as Political Director of the America Votes coalition and as Wisconsin Political Director for the Democratic National Committee.

“Jason is an exceptional political talent in Wisconsin, and we are privileged to have him on board,” said Wineke. “I know Jason will be a strong leader for our state Party as we build on our efforts to protect Democratic majorities up and down the ticket.”

A Racine native, Stephany began his political work as a field organizer for the Gore/Lieberman campaign in 2000. He joined the Democratic Party of Wisconsin as Membership Director in 2001, and later worked for Governor Jim Doyle’s campaign in 2002. From 2003 to 2006, Stephany served in various roles with the Assembly Democratic Campaign Committee and in the Wisconsin State Legislature. He also worked on Kathleen Falk’s 2006 campaign for Attorney General, and returned to the Democratic Party as the DNC’s Wisconsin Political Director in 2007.
