DPW Chair Wineke Statement on Governor

Feb 16, 2009

MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Joe Wineke tonight released the following statement following Governor Jim Doyle’s Budget Address.

“Governor Doyle tonight introduced a budget that will help us forge ahead and confront the challenges we face with realistic solutions to improve our economy, while protecting our top priorities of health care, education, and public safety.

“Governor Doyle’s budget doesn’t rely on gimmicky proposals like sales tax holidays, but rather employs tough cuts, targeted investments, and direct economic stimulus to strengthen our state’s long-term financial picture.

“While Republican leaders continue to oppose all new efforts to create jobs, Governor Doyle has been working hard with leaders in Washington on a budget that uses economic stimulus to fund transportation and infrastructure projects and put thousands of people to work in Wisconsin.

“Now more than ever we need innovative thinking and real leadership to meet our challenges, not more of the same failed Bush policies that the Republicans are clinging to. Thank goodness we have a Governor with the experience, the vision and the leadership to move Wisconsin forward.”
