Paul Ryan Releases Budget with Multi-Trillion Dollar Tax Cut for the Rich

Is This a Joke? Ryan’s Budget Offers More
of the Same Failed Bush Policies

MADISON – Janesville Republican Paul Ryan and GOP leaders in Washington released their alternate budget today, which includes a multi-trillion dollar tax cut for the rich, a plan to undo the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and a plan to gut and privatize Medicare, turning it into a voucher program.

“You’ve got to be fooling me,” said Joe Wineke, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Paul Ryan’s budget contains trillions in tax cuts for the rich, and nothing for working families – just more of the same failed Bush economic policies that got us into this mess.” 

Ryan’s Budget – More of the Same Bush Policies

• Ryan’s budget directs an overwhelming share of its multi trillion-dollar tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans – on top of the Bush tax cuts.  
• Ryan’s budget guts funding for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, killing stimulus projects and millions of jobs.
  
• Ryan’s budget seeks to privatize Medicare, turning it into a voucher program so it can be gutted substantially. 
  
• Ryan’s budget also fails to invest in key priorities like education, infrastructure, law enforcement and public safety, and biomedical research.

Ryan’s full budget was finally released today, after Ryan and the GOP were ridiculed last week for producing a 19-page glossy pamphlet without a single real budget proposal or fiscal estimate.  

“I think Ryan and the Republicans should have stuck with the glossy pamphlet,” said Wineke. “This new budget would be a disaster for working Americans.”
