DPW Chair Tate Statement on Final State Budget Package

MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) Chair Mike Tate issued the following statement regarding the budget package signed into law by Governor Doyle today.
“In the face of a national economic crisis, Governor Doyle and our legislative leaders were able to craft a budget package that cuts spending while defending Wisconsin’s most urgent priorities.
With this budget package, Democrats have strengthened K-12 and college education, kept our neighborhoods safe, and expanded access to affordable healthcare.  This budget also makes critical investments in public infrastructure and private industry to help save and create jobs, while shielding 99% of Wisconsin families from tax increases.
While the Republicans have opted to sit on the sidelines, Governor Doyle, Majority Leader Decker and Speaker Sheridan continue to lead our state forward. Throughout the entire budget process, our Democratic leaders have made the tough decisions necessary to protect working families and get our economy back on track.
