DPW Chair Tate Statement on
Mayor Barrett’s Candidacy Announcement

MADISON – DPW Chair Mike Tate released the following statement regarding Mayor Tom Barrett’s decision to run for Governor of Wisconsin:

“The race for 2010 begins today – and Wisconsin Democrats are more than ready for it.

“Today, Mayor Tom Barrett told Wisconsin that he is set to move forward in leading the people of our state. We applaud his choice to step up to the plate. Mayor Barrett is more than a fighter for families in Milwaukee – he is a fighter for all of Wisconsin.

“In the year ahead, we look forward to the having a great public figure on the campaign trail with the record of a true reformist. He has shown his commitment to the people of Wisconsin by generating jobs for Milwaukee, expanding public safety, and prioritizing programs that help build stronger families. Mayor Barrett’s willingness to take on the establishment has proved his integrity as a dedicated leader, and these skills clearly reflect what the people of Wisconsin are looking for in their next governor.

“Our Republican counterparts are divided, but right now Wisconsin Democrats are united and strong. We are more than confident that Wisconsin will have an exceptional Democratic candidate on the ballot who can lead our state into the future.”
