One Year Later, Democrats Continue
Their Commitment to Progress
MADISON – Democrats across Wisconsin are honored to have President Obama in the state as they celebrate the anniversary of his historic election a year ago today. While there is still a lot of work to be done, President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress have set our nation on the path to continued progress and begun reversing the damage of the past eight years.
President Obama’s speech earlier today in Madison shows how much progress has already been made. While the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has saved nearly 4,000 full-time teaching positions, the President’s Race to the Top program will continue to promote quality education in Wisconsin and throughout our nation.
“President Obama’s visit to Wisconsin is a direct result of Governor Doyle and our Democratic Leadership’s unwavering commitment to education,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) Chair Mike Tate, “it’s a relief to finally have an administration whose priorities reflect those held by Wisconsinites.”
Progress by Democrats also extends beyond education. Democratic leaders have strengthened our economy, increased consumer protections, and brought meaningful health insurance reform to the forefront of public debate and closer to reality than ever before.
“One year ago, the American people chose Democrats to get the country back on track and Democrats have deliverd,” said Tate, “together, with strong support from the federal government, our Democratic leaders in Wisconsin continue the commitment to progress and advancing the interests of Wisconsin.”
