Statement of DPW Chair Mike Tate on
Governor Jim Doyle’s Final State of the State Address
MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate released the following statement after Governor Doyle delivered his annual State of the State Address.
“In historically difficult economic times, Gov. Doyle made cuts in state spending while advancing Wisconsin’s priorities. His actions have created jobs, helped businesses, provided tax relief, improved education and broadened health care coverage.
“In his most recent budget, he created some of the strongest economic development tools in the nation, and Wisconsin now ranks 30th nationally in business taxes.
“In his last State of the State he now calls for new initiatives to help Wisconsin businesses create jobs, from the Wisconsin Core Jobs Act to provide tax credits that will grow payrolls, to the Food Processing Modernization Tax Credit, which will create new jobs in the agriculture industry.
“Gov. Doyle has worked hard to extend health insurance to working Wisconsinites and the new BadgerCare Basic will, at no cost to taxpayers, provide health insurance for low-income workers.
“His administration has invested in education as a way to long-term economic growth. And he is calling for property tax relief to homeowners through a constitutional amendment.
“Jim Doyle has been a champion for integrity in government and has fought hard for the working people of Wisconsin. His accomplishments for Wisconsin have laid the framework for greater days ahead.”
