Tommy Thompson Says Election Won’t Be About Wisconsin
Thompson: “This election… it’s going to be decided on things, you know, that really are not that particular to Wisconsin.”
MADISON – Former Bush Administration Secretary Tommy Thompson came back to Madison on Thursday to give a speech on health care amid reports that Republican Party leaders in Washington continue to pressure him to challenge Terrence Wall and Dave Westlake in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate.
“If indecision was an Olympic sport, Tommy Thompson would have a gold medal locked up,” said Mike Tate Chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
After Thompson’s speech, he said to the media:
“This election… it’s going to be decided on things, you know, that really are not that particular to Wisconsin.”

“Whether Secretary Thompson gets in the race or not, there is one thing we know for sure, this election will be entirely about the issues important to the people of Wisconsin. Thompson is wrong to suggest otherwise,” Tate said. “Tommy really sounds like he has spent the last five years as a Washington D.C. insider.”
Thompson has spent the last five years making millions of dollars working on behalf of wealthy special interests including health insurance and pharmaceutical companies and the finance industry.
