Duffy Shifts Campaign Accounting Gimmicks
Campaign Cash Deception in the Northwoods
MADISON – A day after appearing at a Wisconsin Tea Party rally where white supremacist “Col.” John Eidsmoe had been scheduled to speak, reality tee-vee star and Congressional candidate Sean Duffy still was hiding his campaign finance numbers in a miasma of deceit and hypocrisy.
Duffy is sponsored by the convicted criminal fundraiser and Tea Party Toady Mark Block, who yesterday even GOP spokesman and right-wing radio talk show host Charlie Sykes called a “two-bit political operative.”
Now, following the path of the criminal Mark Block, Duffy is using some two-bit math himself.
In January Duffy, an MTV reality star who was appointed Ashland County District Attorney by former Gov. Scott McCallum, originally claimed 90 percent of his donors were from Wisconsin, but then only listed 330 or so of his 1600 donors, at a time when his campaign was trumpeting its endorsement by the half-term governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin.
Now, after having fired his campaign manager in the wake of a bizarre incident at the Wisconsin Dells, Duffy has radically altered his account of his campaign funds, and now is acknowledging that only 68 percent of his donors are from Wisconsin.
“Sean Duffy is shifting his account of where his campaign cash is coming from, drafting on the back of a man in Mark Block who has a criminal history of fundraising,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Friday. “This is not some MTV show. The people of Wisconsin’s northwoods deserve the truth.”
