MADISON– Former Secretary Dick Leinenkugel announced his support today to repeal health insurance reform which provides tax credits to 77,400 Wisconsin small businesses, protections for 1.3 million Wisconsin children against denial of coverage by health insurance companies for pre-existing conditions, and lower costs for 644,000 Wisconsin seniors.
“It took Secretary Leinenkugel one morning to let people know whose side he is on,” said Mike Tate, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, “He is standing with health insurance companies and not with Wisconsin’s children and seniors.”
On his Web site, Leinenkugel says, “I believe that we need to repeal and replace Obamacare.”
The recently passed health insurance reform signed by President Obama provides tax credits to as many as 77,400 small businesses throughout the state, starting this year, to help purchase health insurance for their employees. Health insurance reform also prohibits insurance companies from excluding coverage of pre-existing conditions for the 1.3 million children in Wisconsin, starting this year. In addition, it closes the “donut hole‟ to reduce out-of-costs for seniors and reduces Medicare premiums for the 644,000 Wisconsin seniors.
“Secretary Leinenkugel wants to repeal health insurance reform and replace it with an empty slogan that will do nothing for Wisconsin,” Tate said.
