Where’s Secretary Thompson’s
Exploratory Committee?
Secretary Thompson Isn’t Fooling Anyone: He Can’t Work for Wisconsin Families, When He’s Being Paid by Washington Insiders
MADISON — On March 7, longtime Secretary Tommy Thompson aide and fellow health insurance industry “Uber-lobbyist” Bill McCoshen, said that there will be an exploratory committee set up by Thompson before the end of March. Today, is April 1st.
“Where’s the exploratory committee? Where’s the official Secretary Thompson campaign?” asked Mike Tate, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “While it’s ironic that Secretary Thompson’s organization didn’t meet their self-imposed April Fools Day deadline, he’s not fooling anyone when it comes to his refusal to release a list of corporate interests he’s been working for – and making millions from – over the last five years.”
Since leaving the Bush Administration, Thompson has spent the last five years as a Washington, D.C. insider cashing in for his work on behalf of corporate interests – including health insurance and pharmaceutical companies, and the finance industry.
The Democratic Party recently released a new web video “Working for Them,” that focuses on Secretary Thompson’s refusal to disclose to the media who he works for during an interview in Madison on February 11.
Secretary Thompson also refused to disclose his clients in a November 23, 2009 interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel – but admitted that he works with about 25 health care companies as part of his work for the DC lobbying firm.
“The people of Wisconsin deserve someone who is standing up for them against the corporate special interests in Washington,” said Tate, “So people deserve to know who Secretary Thompson has been standing up for in Washington. How can he fight for us, when he has been working for them?”
