Johnson Gets Cozy with DC Lobbyists for Special Interests Like Big Oil, Big Pharma and Insurance Companies
MADISON —U.S. Senate candidate Ron Johnson has already taken direction from his GOP bosses in Washington, avoided the state and national media, and refused to answer questions from reporters. He has cancelled on Tea Party citizen groups seeking more information on the self-proclaimed Tea Party candidate’s positions on the issues. Now, instead of listening to the people of Wisconsin he is in Washington D.C. today hoping to raise money from, and listening to DC lobbyists for Big Oil, Big Pharma, health insurance companies and a host of other special interests who want nothing more than for Johnson be their voice in the U.S. Senate.
“Ron Johnson has defended Big Oil and said that “this is not the time to be beating up” on BP,” said Mike Tate, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “He has defended “Big Pharma”and his number one priority is to go to Washington and do the bidding of insurance companies. Now he is getting cozy with all the special interests who already have too much power and influence in Washington because he wants to be a voice for them, not the people of Wisconsin. It is clear where Ron Johnson’s priorities lie and whose side he is on.”
According to the invitation, the fundraiser with special interest lobbyists is being organized by the Bellwether Group, a Washington, DC-based professional fundraising firm. Hosts for the event include Washington D.C. lobbyists who have lobbied the federal government more than 2,500 times on issues for special interests such as the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, Society of the Plastics Industry, Association of Oil Pipe Lines, the Oxygenated Fuels Association, and others who have an extensive history lobbying on behalf of the health insurance industry.
The Bellwether Group raised money for Congressman Tom Feeney, who lost his seat after hebecame engulfed in the largest Washington D.C. lobbying scandal in history. Feeney accepted a Scottish golf trip from disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and was named one of the most corrupt members of Congress four times by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
