Multimillionaire, Big Oil Apologist Ron Johnson In His Own Words

Slick Ron Johnson Hopes His Support for Great Lakes Oil Drilling Doesn’t Stick With Voters

MADISON — Seeking to deceive voters about his track record of defending Big Oil, multimillionaire Senate Candidate Ron Johnson’s rushed attempt at distortion was quickly called “misleading” by an Associated Press analysis Wednesday.

To help clear up any confusion for Mr. Johnson, here is the audio of what he told WisPolitics on June 14 about his willingness to open up the Great Lakes for drilling.

And again, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Tuesday:

“The Wispolitics reporter asked Johnson if he would support more drilling in the continental US – on the Great Lakes if oil was found there, or in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.  Johnson’s response:

“Yeah, you know the bottom line is, we are an oil based economy and there’s nothing we’re going to do to get off of that for many, many years. So we have to be realistic and recognize that fact. We have to get the oil where it is…”

“What’s crystal clear as Lake Superior on a summer morning is that Ron Johnson hid his financial interest in Big Oil for more than a month while he said he supported oil drilling in the Great Lakes and went around defending Big Oil on the campaign trail,” said Mike Tate, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
