Johnson Will March in Pulaski Polka Days Parade, Dance Away From His Extreme Opposition to Economic Recovery and Investments in Education
MADISON – According to published reports, multimillionaire Senate candidate Ron Johnson will appear in Pulaski this Sunday, July 25, from 9AM to 2 PMto appear in the Polka Days Parade at 911 Saint Augustine Street. Johnson will no doubt be talking down the economy, playing politics with our economic recovery and try to dance away from his elite view that Pulaski “would be far better off” without the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Over two months ago, Johnson said, “We would have been far better off not spending any of the money and let the recovery happen as it was going to happen.” [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 5/15/10]
Johnson’s opposition to the Recovery Act includes opposing the $3.9 million the Pulaski Community Schools have received to help prevent cuts to education, teacher layoffs and property tax increases. He opposes $99,704 in Recovery Act funding to improve basic educational programs, including $31,290 for new textbooks for students in the school district. He also opposes $4,894 in Recovery Act funding for improved educational technology, and more than $560,000 in grants to preschools and the school district to improve education for children with disabilities.
Earlier this month Johnson said, “We just spent $1 trillion dollars and we got nothing for it.” [Johnson balances GOP, tea party, Politico, 7/6/10] despite the fact that Brown County has received $103 million in Recovery funding; Oconto County has received $19.1 million in Recovery funding and Shawano County has received $10.5 million in Recovery funding.
According to news reports, the Recovery Act continues to have a positive impact on the recovery and has helped local economies.
In Shawano County alone, businesses have gotten nearly $5 million in small businesses loans as a result of the recovery act.….According to the data, 19 small businesses received $4.5 million in loans in fiscal year 2010, while seven received $315,000 in loans in fiscal year 2009. The Northeastern Wisconsin Community Action Program, in Oconto, for example, serves Brown, Oconto and five other counties. The agency will receive $3.1 million in stimulus money to help low-income families weatherize their homes in the winter months, nearly $930,000 for a community services block grant that could cover a variety of programs and services and $33,165 to administer an emergency food assistance program for the poor.
