Scott Walker's Flood of Irony (8/2/10)

Aug 01, 2010

MADISON – After fleeing Milwaukee County in the midst of its historic flooding crisis, Scott Walker this weekend finally acknowledged one disaster while avoiding another.

Walker expressed newfound concern for individuals in Milwaukee County with mental health needs who suffered from the flood.

A fine sentiment, but Walker already has left the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex understaffed, has left the facility itself to crumble and has presided over a reckless policy by which dangerous male inmates were housed with females there who subsequently fell victim to sexual assault.

“It’s a testament to how poorly Scott Walker manages crisis that his newfound concern for both flood victims and for mental health patients rings hollow,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday. “He had plenty of opportunities to show leadership to both flooding victims and to county patients and he passed them by. The one person we know Scott Walker will take care of? Himself.”
