Ron Johnson's Funny View of the Constitution

Nov 18, 2010

Toes Party Line, Obstructs Nuclear Non-Proliferation

MADISON- In trying to block an arms treaty with Russia, Ron Johnson begins his Senate career toeing the Republican party line – and conjuring a warped view of the U.S. Constitution which he claimed during his campaign he respected.

Ratification of the START treaty has been long in the making, but Johnson now wants this process delayed until he gets into office.

The 20th Amendment to the Constitution makes clear that his term doesn’t begin until January 3.

“Apparently, faithfulness to his Republican and Tea Party bosses is more important to Ron Johnson than faithfulness to the U.S. Constitution,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Friday. “We hope Ron Johnson would learn from the example of other Wisconsin senators who went to Washington to stand up for Wisconsin, not just toe the party line.”
