MADISON– A GOP effort to rollback auto insurance requirements is underway, and the charge is being led by State Representative John Nygren, an insurance salesman.
Nygren, a Marinette Republican, received more than $15,000 in campaign contributions from the insurance industry this cycle, according to campaign finance records.
“Scott Walker and his Republican operatives in the legislature have proven once again that this special session has nothing to do with creating jobs and everything to do with rewarding the special interest groups that put them in power,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Thursday. “First Scott Walker allows drunk drivers to write laws that protect drunk drivers, now he lets insurance salesmen write laws that leave car accident victims without enough coverage to pay their bills. Is there no end to the hypocrisy?”
