MADISON-Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald’s announcement to the Wausau Daily Herald’s editorial board that he is running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
“With Wisconsin in an unemployment crisis that has been exacerbated by an extreme brand of Scott Walker politics deliberately dividing our state, one of Walker’s handpuppets is now running to bring this radical Republican dysfunction to the United States Senate. Jeff Fitzgerald has distinguished himself as a willing tool of Scott Walker-but has listened to few others.
There’s no doubt he would be a faithful servant to Scott Walker, Big Oil, Wall Street and the Koch Brothers’ vision that tears down the middle class. But as we’ve seen during his disastrous turn as Assembly Speaker, and footservant to Scott Walker, we know that Fitzgerald, along with his brother, has ignored the voices of Wisconsin’s working families, seniors, students and farm families.
At the end of the day, it is nothing but pure arrogance on the part of Scott Walker handpuppet Jeff Fitzgerald to ask for a promotion after failing Wisconsin and blindly following the disastrous Tea Party agenda that is tearing us down. One Scott Walker is more than enough.”
