MADISON-Sean Duffy, who has said his family “struggles” on a $174,000 per year Congressional salary, was joined recently in solidarity by Tea Party Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana, who suggested it was “class warfare” to point out the plight faced by multimillionaires under President Obama’s jobs plan, which seeks more tax contributions from the super-rich.
Fleming, a millionaire himself, said he has “maybe $400,000” left over to “feed his family,” after taxes each year.
Meanwhile, for the lawyer Duffy, Wisconsin Republicans unsuccessfully tried to hide video of him saying that he “struggles,” on his Congressional salary. In keeping with north woods tradition, Duffy’s family flies in sushi for Christmas each year.
“Sean Duffy “struggles” on $174,000 per year, so maybe he can learn lessons in frugality from a fellow Tea Party member who is having a rough go of it with $400,000 in his pocket,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said. “Whether it’s flying in sushi for Christmas or springing for $350 bottles of wine with hedge fund managers, these Tea Party activists have seen up close the tough times facing the super-rich, so we applaud their humanitarian spirit in looking out for them, their designer clothing and their vacation homes during these difficult times.”
