MADISON – Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following reports that Tea Party front group MediaTrackers.org, a hyper-conservative outlet funded by Scott Walker’s political allies, today attacked Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett over allegations that a supporter of Barrett’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign had outstanding tax bills between 1983-2002.
“It’s telling that this so-called “media” outlet is so quick to deflect attention from Scott Walker’s ever-widening corruption probe.
While we certainly don’t expect anything less from the Tea Party groups that organized pro-Walker rallies, any organization representing itself as a nonpartisan media outlet owes it to the public to present the facts.
Unfortunately for Scott Walker and his conservative backers, the facts here are simple: Scott Walker’s lobbyist friend William Gardner was indicted on multiple felony counts after making nearly $50,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Scott Walker. Today’s hypocritical mud-slinging by MediaTrackers.org is a thinly-veiled attempt to distract Wisconsinites from the Republican Party’s elephant in the room – an unprecedented corruption probe into a sitting governor.”
