GOP Dirty Tricks: Criminal Cyber Attack Takes Down United Wisconsin Website

Nov 13, 2011

MADISON—The Democratic Party of Wisconsin released the following statement upon learning that the leading grassroots recall website, www.UnitedWisconsin.com, was taken down this evening by a coordinated, deliberate and criminal cyber attack. The attack, known as a Distributed Denial of Service Attack, flooded United Wisconsin’s servers at approximately 2 pm.

“If Scott Walker and the Republican Party are really concerned with protecting the integrity of the recall process, they will immediately condemn the criminal cyber attack on United Wisconsin’s website and call on Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to launch a full investigation with the assistance of the FBI.
“The laws of Wisconsin and the United States were clearly broken tonight in a desperate and illegal attempt to stifle the voice of the people by denying access to Wisconsinites seeking important information on how they can join our grassroots effort to recall Scott Walker.  The criminals that launched this attack must be apprehended.
“Despite the illegal actions taken tonight, our grassroots, people-powered movement to recall Scott Walker will not be stopped. At 12:01 AM tonight, any recall supporter can visit www.recallwalkerhq.com and download a petition to recall Scott Walker.”
As of this release, all of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s web services are fully operational. Our online vendors have been notified of the attack on United Wisconsin’s website and are actively monitoring our servers for suspicious activity.
