MADISON – Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to the new Scott Walker television ad featuring a teacher from a Kenosha choice school.
“In a television ad blast fueled by special interests that have applauded Scott Walker’s assault on public education from the sidelines, a Republican activist and Walker supporter from a Kenosha choice school continues the misleading response to his recall.
Figures show that 90 percent of Wisconsin schools will see fewer staff and 40 percent of students will attend schools with bigger class sizes. Wisconsin’s excellent teachers and commitment to our public schools have historically kept us ahead of the curve on innovations in education, but where Wisconsin is now leading the nation is in cuts to education.
We’re told by the Walker supporter in the ad that Scott Walker “is going to do what’s right for Wisconsin,” and that the person who will get her vote is the person “that says what they mean and means what they say.”
But what Scott Walker has done is NOT what he said he would do. Never did Scott Walker run on the promise of stripping workers’ rights and slashing $1.6 billion from education.
Scott Walker and his special-interest backers can spend as much as they want on a dishonest ad blitz featuring a parade of Walker apologists, but Wisconsinites are too smart to be fooled. Scott Walker lied to Wisconsin, but the numbers don’t: Scott Walker’s so-called “reforms” are not what’s right for Wisconsin.”
