MADISON-Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to the Tea Party challenge to Senate district lines filed late today.
“This lawsuit represents a brazen grab at power by the Tea Party forces that now control Wisconsin’s Republican party. In the Redistricting law that the legislature just passed, new district lines were to begin for the November 2012 election cycle-not during the recall elections
The Government Accountability Board already has stated that the recall elections should be held in the current districts. The GOP legislature even had a chance to change this legislatively and wisely chose not to pursue it, knowing it would create chaos and confusion.
Changing the rules in the middle of the game will disenfranchise some 300,000 voters. Which is precisely why the most radical members of Scott Walker’s Republican Party are engaged in this reprehensible lawsuit.”
