Washington Lobbyist Tommy Thompson Defends Tax Cuts for Fellow Millionaires

Nov 21, 2011

MADISON-Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following Washington lobbyist Tommy Thompson’s spirited defense of tax cuts for millionaires following the collapse of the Congressional “super-committee.”

“Washington lobbyist Tommy Thompson has come out swinging in defense of his fellow D.C. millionaires, who have not had to feel the brunt of the Recession. He also tries to have his cake and eat it too, decrying the lack of $1.5 trillion in cuts-without naming a single program or entitlement that he would cut.

Tommy, a career lawyer, politician and lobbyist, really stepped in it when he said he was a farmer going on his tractor to harvest corn this week. We think he’s stepped in it again trying to defend tax cuts for his fellow millionaires without spelling out the real truth here – that his defense of tax breaks for the super-rich will jeopardize Medicare, Social Security and tax relief for the middle class and working families struggling the most in these tough times.”
