MILWAUKEE — A new report confirmed today by the Associated Press reveals that DC insider and influence peddler extraordinaire Tommy Thompson made at least $8.5 million over the past few years working for a major lobbying firm, pharmaceutical and big medical companies, and other corporate interests.
Among the report’s highlights:
- “Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson has earned more than $8.5 million in compensation since 2005 from a web of private sector companies that includes a prominent Washington lobbying firm…”
- “Since 2005, he has been paid at least $1.1 million by Akin Gump, a Washington law firm with one of the city’s biggest lobbying shops.”
- “The documentation, which includes SEC filings and other legally required financial disclosures, is not comprehensive. It doesn’t include earnings Thompson might have received from some privately held companies.”
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has established the Tommy Thompson Disclosure Countdown Clock to hold the super-lobbyist accountable to the people. He is required to submit his financial disclosure paperwork by January 31st, and has publicly pledged to do so instead of filing for yet another extension.
“Today’s report shows that Tommy Thompson has made millions and millions of dollars doing the bidding of lobbyists and the corporate special interests, and much more is sure to come when he finally discloses his entire personal financial record,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Mike Tate. “When you have spent so much time defending the powerful, the insiders and the elite, how on earth do you expect Wisconsin to believe you will actually fight for the people in the U.S. Senate?”
