A Scott Walker licensing agency gave the wife of a top Republican official a $27,000 raise without considering a single other applicant for the state job, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has reported.
Current and former Walker aides are under investigation as part of a growing John Doe criminal corruption probe and after allegedly being promoted for work in government because of their political loyalty.
The current hire is not part of the John Doe probe, but involves the wife of the Dane County Republican Chair, who, according to the paper, “received a 49% pay boost, raising her annual salary from $54,378 to $81,265.”
“It literally pays to be a Republican when Scott Walker is governor,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Tuesday. “With a criminal corruption probe enveloping his administration, you would think that Scott Walker would be more careful, or at least a little more subtle, about his crooked hiring practices.”
