On the heels of the release of a damning video of Scott Walker promising his top campaign donor that he would “use divide and conquer” to ram through his dishonest agenda, new video has surfaced of top Walker ally and Assembly Speaker Jeff “Little Fitz” Fitzgerald stating that Walker’s far-right caucus sought to take the Republican attack on workers’ rights even further.
Salon.com is reporting that Fitzgerald stated he “was not surprised” by Walker’s destruction of seven decades of labor peace, and that the elimination of collective bargaining for public employees was, “more of a middle ground if you can believe that.” Fitzgerald also stated that his caucus sought to pass “Right-to-Work-For-Less” legislation modeled after a similar bill passed in Indiana.
The report goes on to state that another Walker Republican, Rep. Chris Kapenga, promised supporters at a listening session just last night that Republicans “have Right to Work legislation ready to go” and just “have to wait until it is politically feasible.”
Scott Walker never campaigned on the issue of eliminating collective bargaining, and his since stated that he would not “push” legislation to turn Wisconsin into a “Right-to-Work-For-Less” state; however, Walker has stopped short of promising to veto any such legislation.
“These two damaging videos of Walker and his Republican allies in the legislature promising one thing in public and another in private should give the people of Wisconsin great pause,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Tuesday. “Wisconsin cannot move forward when the people have lost trust in their governor and the office he was sworn to uphold.”
