Scott Walker Union-Busting Spreads to Private Sector: Wisconsin Democrats Stand in Solidarity With Ashland Workers

May 03, 2012

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in solidarity with striking workers of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local 621 at Ashland Industries.

“Even as Scott Walker’s forces move closer to making Wisconsin into a Right-to-Work-for-Less state, the labor wars he began last year are spreading further into the private sector like a wasting disease. The striking women and men of Local 621 have our full support. They are fighting for their very right to form a union, and a chance at the middle class, even as Walker’s Tea Party extremists are in plot to further shrink the freedoms of Wisconsin’s workers.

“The rights of the strikers in Ashland, and the rights of thousands of others in private-sector labor unions, hang in the balance June 5th.

“When it comes to the working families of Wisconsin, and when the question is posed to Scott Walker, “Whose side are you on?” we know the craven answer already. As for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, we shall always and forever stand with the worker.”
