A day after Scott Walker made an artful denial of wrongdoing and muddied his status as a target of prosecution, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin on Sunday released a letter to Scott Walker calling on Walker to produce evidence he had been exonerated in federal and state criminal corruption probes that already have resulted in 15 felony charges, 13 grants of immunity and two guilty pleas.
Walker, who is the first governor in Wisconsin history with a criminal defense fund, has hid behind secrecy rules of the John Doe criminal corruption probe and has given a battery of self-serving denials.
It is standard practice for high-profile figures involved in criminal investigations to seek – and be granted – letters of exoneration by prosecutors.
“If Scott Walker is not a target of any federal or state prosecution, he is obligated to the people of Wisconsin to provide them with this evidence before they decide to hire or fire him on Tuesday,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Sunday.
“A reasonable person should have deep worries about Scott Walker’s culpability in the crimes alleged. THE ONLY way Wisconsin will know for certain is if he provides letters of exoneration from the state and federal prosecutors who have overseen this investigation.”
