Washington Hedge Fund Banker With Cayman Islands Account STILL Won't Release Tax Returns

Jul 11, 2012

Eric Hovde Continues to Keep Finances a Secret on Wisconsin Bus Trip

On a bus trip this week meant to promote him to an unwitting public, Washington hedge fund banker Eric Hovde continued to dodge disclosure of his tax returns or answer questions about his offshore investments.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate released the following statement:

“Washington hedge fund banker Eric Hovde is running for Senate on a plan that gives tax cuts to for millionaires and billionaires — but as he travels the state he continues to keep his tax returns a secret. Voters deserve to know how he would personally benefit from his own tax cut proposals for the wealthy, and whether he is taking advantage of government subsidies or tax loopholes. Hovde’s net worth is estimated at more than $50 million and the media has reported that his finances are contained within “a complex web of investment firms, holding companies, and stock portfolios,” including holdings in a fund based in the Cayman Islands — a popular tax haven. Had Hovde not spent the last 24 years in Washington D.C. he might know that Wisconsin voters deserve more than candidate who keeps secrets.”

JUST WHAT IS ERIC HOVDE HIDING AS HE BUSES AROUND WISCONSIN?

-Hovde is a Washington insider who thinks the rules don’t apply to them. He talks about cutting taxes for corporations and millionaires like himself, but he refuses to come clean and release his own financial interests.

-Hovde’s net worth is estimated at more than $50 million and the media has reported that his finances are contained within “a complex web of investment firms, holding companies, and stock portfolios,” including holdings in a fund based in the Cayman Islands — a popular tax haven.

-Hovde refuses to answer questions about whether he has taken advantage of government subsidies and tax loopholes at the expense of middle class taxpayers.

-The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has called on Hovde to release 10 years of his state and federal tax returns so that the public can know for certain whether or not HE would benefit from his massive tax cut proposals for the wealthy.

-Hovde manages and profits off an offshore fund in the Cayman Islands. Wisconsinites need to know if this fund is creating jobs in other countries.
