ICYMI: HE SAID WHAT? Paul Ryan Protege Sean Duffy Compares Buying Health Care to Buying Lawnmowers

Aug 22, 2012

As he struggled to explain the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan plan to end Medicare, freshman Ryan protege Sean Duffy said seniors should be able to buy vital health care the same way they buy lawnmowers.

Duffy, previously known for saying he “struggled” to make ends meet on his $174,000 Congressional salary, made his latest gaffe speaking to local radio station WIXK out of New Richmond.

According to The Huffington Post, “Duffy’s” argument was that Americans have “no clue” how much the medical procedure costs, but the lawnmower’s price is obvious at checkout. “You’re talking about cost controls,” Duffy said. “First of all, do we have cost controls on lawnmowers?””

“Sean Duffy has shown yet again how completely out-of-touch he is with the lives of the people of Wisconsin when he compares health care to lawnmowers. The financing of chemotherapy, heart surgery, preventive breast exams and colonoscopies is not the same as buying garden equipment. In his zeal to justify the unjustifiable Romney-Ryan plan to end Medicare by turning it into a voucher program, Sean Duffy has mown down his credibility,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said.
