Hypocritical Sean Duffy Must Stop Dodging Prime Time Debate He Once Demanded

Oct 03, 2012

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in response to “Struggling” Sean Duffy’s refusal to debate his Democratic opponent in prime time-something Duffy DEMANDED in 2010.

“In 2010 as a challenger and reality tee-vee star who never faced a real election, Sean Duffy DEMANDED that he debate his Democratic opponent in prime time in a format that covers about 70 percent of the District. Now that he’s gone to the Congress as a Tea Party extremist, claiming that he “struggles” on his $174,000 salary, he wants to hide from any scrutiny and duck the proposed debate.
This is as cowardly as it is craven.

Now, it’s too bad that “Struggling” Sean Duffy has a do-nothing record of coddling Wall Street and voting against the economic security of Wisconsin’s north woods. And it’s too bad that he doesn’t want to explain his “struggling” comments to a wide audience, or his comparison of seniors buying health insurance to them buying garden tools.

But this election is about more than personal political gain for Sean Duffy, who has done pretty well for himself and his family in Washington. This debate is about the rest of the 7th Congressional District, who deserve to hear from Duffy outside the protection of his Tea Party town halls.

“Struggling” Sean Duffy demanded a prime time debate in 2010, when he was a mere reality tee-vee star. But by ducking the exact same debate in 2012 he shows that he is something less than a D-list tee-ves star-he’s-just another typical Washington politician out for himself.”
