Statement of WisDems Chair Mike Tate on December Jobs Numbers

Jan 16, 2013

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on December’s jobs numbers.

“With Wisconsin ranked 42nd in the nation in job creation, behind states like Alabama and trailing our neighbors in the Midwest like Ohio and Michigan, any news that we’ve added jobs is good news.

“But the latest news isn’t good enough. Jobs data released today shows Wisconsin added just 1,300 new jobs in December, and worse, November’s estimated gains were revised downward by more than 4,000 jobs.

“It’s clear that what Scott Walker is doing is not working.

“Instead of “focusing like lasers” on job creation, Scott Walker and his Legislature pursued a divisive and extreme social agenda, while letting more than 50 job creation bills — many of which contained proposals that have historically enjoyed broad bipartisan support — die on the table, and slashing investments in critical job training programs.

“If Wisconsin is to create the 250,000 new jobs Scott Walker promised and enjoy a recovery anywhere near as robust as our neighbors in the Midwest, Scott Walker must put aside the partisan political gamesmanship and put Wisconsin families first.”
