WARNING: Visits From Scott Walker May Be Bad For Your Economic Health

Apr 16, 2013

China Forecast Downgraded Just as Jobs Failure Governor Arrives

Governors in Republican presidential primary states were watching warily after China’s economic forecast was downgraded just as Scott Walker arrived for a self-promotional visit.

Walker’s tenure as governor has been marked by nation-leading job loss, falling wages, and rising unemployment. Wisconsin has fallen from 11th to 44th in job creation under Walker; and has fallen to 45th in wages. Walker, meanwhile, has abandoned his signature pledge to create 250,00 private-sector jobs in his first term in office.

The BBC reported that, just as Walker arrived late last week, analysts had significantly downgraded China’s growth prospects, though there was no word on whether, inspired by Walker, the Central Committee of the People’s Republic would be abandoning its pledge to create 2.5 million jobs by 2015.

“Scott Walker has caused Wisconsin to drop to dead last in the Midwest in every economic indicator. Now it appears that his ability to ruin economies extends to the Far East,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Thursday. “If I were a governor of Iowa or New Hampshire or Nevada, I would be worried that a Walker visit would mean a coincident downturn in my own state’s economy.”
