Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate following this morning’s state appeals court ruling:
“Today’s ruling does not change the simple fact that if an election were held tomorrow in Wisconsin no one would have to show voter ID in order to cast a ballot.
“The facts here remain straightforward — every single eligible voter in Wisconsin should have the opportunity to express their vote at the ballot box. Requiring a photo ID to vote has been shown to prevent eligible seniors, veterans and potentially tens of thousands of Wisconsin voters from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote. We are confident that the numerous courts hearing other challenges to this absurd law will see it for exactly what it is — an attempt by radical Tea Party Republicans to change the rules of the game because they cannot win on the merits — and keep this blatant attempt at disenfranchisement from ever being enacted in a Wisconsin election.”
