ICYMI: Scott Walker Obstructs the Press: Tries To Pull News Coverage Highlighting His Broken Jobs Promise in Wisconsin; Excludes Reporters From Campaign Event in Seattle

Aug 28, 2013

WJFW Channel 12 in Rhinelander is reporting that Scott Walker’s administration asked them to remove from their website a story that highlighted Scott Walker’s complete abandonment of his central campaign promise to create 250,000 jobs.

WJFW was the first up with video of Walker’s remarks Monday in Merrill that his 250,000 promise, “wasn’t so much to hit a magic number.”

In response to WJFW’s original reporting, the nonpartisan Politifact Wisconsin re-evaluated its ongoing analysis of Walker’s jobs promise. The most recent calculations show that Scott Walker is roughly 170,000 jobs away from hitting his promise with just more than 16 months left in his first term.

According to WJFW, “All this attention seemed to concern the Walker administration. Walker’s press secretary, Tom Evenson, called Newswatch 12 on Tuesday, and asked if we could be persuaded to take Monday’s story off our website.”

The Seattle Times is also reporting that Scott Walker specifically requested that journalists be barred from his campaign event next Thursday at the right-wing Washington Policy Center’s annual dinner, noting that it’s “the first such prohibition for the annual event in recent memory.”

The Times also reports that, “’Campaign’ refers to Walker’s 2014 re-election bid, although it is unclear how many Wisconsin voters will be in Seattle next week.”

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has released a new web video highlighting Walker’s complete abandonment of his 250,000 jobs promise. View the video here: http://tinyurl.com/ol67gux
