Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on Representative Jon Richards’ announcement of his candidacy for Attorney General.
“Enabled by a self-proclaimed Tea Party attorney general, Wisconsin Republicans have blatantly disregarded the rule of law in pursuit of their divisive, hyper-partisan agenda.
“That’s why I’m thrilled that Jon Richards has decided to run for attorney general. Jon has a long history of fighting to protect our civil rights and our tradition of clean, transparent government that works for the people, both as an attorney and as a legislator.
“Wisconsin voters need an experienced, independent defender of justice who puts our laws and our Constitution above partisan political battles, and that’s exactly what they’ll get with Jon Richards.
“We are confident that our open primary process will yield the strongest possible candidate next year.”
