Another Scott Walker Budget Gimmick

Oct 09, 2013

Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on Scott Walker’s latest budget gimmick.

“I’m sure it’s merely a coincidence that, with his approval ratings slipping and Wisconsin ranked 45th in the nation in job growth prospects, Scott Walker is announcing another tax gimmick.

“Especially given that it’s been less than a week since a challenger with a proven track record of creating jobs and opportunity for Wisconsinites announced her intentions to run for governor.

“Walker’s announcement is just a cynical ploy to distract from his abysmal jobs performance and once again he’s playing games with the state budget.

“Scott Walker’s latest gimmick — which merely lessens the property tax increase imposed by his budget — isn’t the result of a thoughtful, bipartisan commitment to a fairer tax system. This proposal comes in the wake of an income tax cut that primarily benefits the wealthiest Wisconsinites and is being paid for by Walker’s historic $1.6 billion cut to public education and $2.05 billion in new borrowing.

“Just like he did in Milwaukee County, Scott Walker is kicking the can down the road in a blatant attempt to make himself look better in advance of an increasingly difficult election.”
