Scott Walker's Early Christmas Gift

Dec 15, 2013

Lately, Scott Walker has taken on an Ebenezer Scrooge-like persona, asking families to cancel Christmas for the kids and donate to his campaign for governor instead. Not to mention creating an awful piecemeal healthcare plan that breaks his promise to Wisconsin’s neediest.

However, when you dig deeper, Walker isn’t exactly saying “bah humbug” to everyone in Wisconsin. In fact, if you’re on Walker’s gift list, your present came early this year. His 2011-2013 budget delivered nearly $83.3 million in tax cuts to Walker’s corporate pals and other big corporations.

On the flip-side, the budget raised taxes for low-income families by reducing the earned income tax credit due working households. Walker also adjusted the state’s Homestead Tax Credit for low-income homeowners and renters, resulting in a tax increase of over $8 million.

Since taking office, Walker has forked over millions to corporate friends at the expense of everyday Wisconsinites.

“Since day one Walker has been more more concerned with rewarding his loyal campaign backers than he is with standing up for Wisconsin families,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday. “Walker is just fine with stealing Christmas from working-class households, as long as his corporate buddies and rich friends get their presents first.”
