Following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on the news that Ashland Alderwoman Kelly Westlund has announced her candidacy for Wisconsin’s Seventh Congressional District.
“After three years of representation by Sean Duffy, a hyper-partisan so out-of-touch with the needs of Northern and Central Wisconsin families that he says he “struggles” on his $174,000 per year taxpayer-funded salary, the people of Wisconsin’s Seventh Congressional District are no better off than they were before.
“That’s why it’s great news that Kelly Westlund, a small business owner and local elected official with deep roots in the community, is running to challenge Sean Duffy and offer a clear alternative to the partisan gridlock that has impeded economic growth and opportunity.
“Instead of voting to shutdown the government, like Sean Duffy, Kelly will work every day to make sure the government works better for the people of North and Central Wisconsin so we can create good-paying jobs, keep our promises to our seniors and provide affordable healthcare for everyone.
“Should there be a primary, we are confident our open primary process will yield the strongest possible candidate next year.”
