In advance of next week’s State of the State address, Scott Walker is in Hartford today, momentarily putting aside his cross-country “Abandoning Wisconsin Families” tour to tout dishonest job claims that conveniently ignore his glaring failures on job creation.
The truth is that Walker isn’t even close to his central campaign promise of creating 250,000 jobs by the end of his first term. The latest, most accurate federal jobs numbers show Wisconsin ranked 37th in the nation in job creation over the most recent one-year period.
Hard-working families across the state aren’t fooled by the governor’s blatant distortion of the facts. Recent public polling found that 70 percent of Wisconsinites say their personal financial situation has stayed the same or gotten worse since Walker took office and nearly two-thirds of the state say the state’s economy will stay the same or get worse over the next year.
“We know Scott Walker will provide sound bites on his commitment to job creation and go to great lengths to distort the facts on his colossal economic failure,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Thursday. “But struggling families across the state don’t need a governor who spends more time cultivating an image as a job creator than actually creating jobs. Wisconsin needs someone who will earnestly take on the task of putting people back to work.”
