We're Number One: Scott Walker's Wisconsin leads the nation in new unemployment claims, again

Feb 16, 2014

Last week, figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed Wisconsin led the nation in new unemployment claims for the week ending in February first with a change of 5,041 new claims – ahead of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

It’s the second time in three months that Wisconsin has led the nation in new unemployment claims, in the last week of November the state led the nation in new unemployment claims – more claims than both the second and third states on the list combined.

“Wisconsin is 37th in the nation in job creation, falling from 11th before Scott Walker took office,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Monday. “It’s no surprise that Scott Walker’s Governors Association is panicked at the prospect of facing a proven job creator in Mary Burke and will stop at nothing to distract from their abysmal job creation record.”
