What Scott Walker Won't Mention In His Re-Election Announcement

Apr 10, 2014

While Scott Walker is focused on his number priority: re-election; Wisconsin continues to get more of the same bad economic news. The latest, being four Wisconsin companies announcing deep layoffs – including defense contractor Oshkosh Corporation.

Oshkosh Corporation announced yesterday it plans to lay off over 700 employees beginning in June. The same day, two more Fox Valley companies announced they would completely close their facilities. Cenveo Inc. will close a manufacturing plant in Appleton and Omya Inc. plans to close a plant in Kimberly, resulting in the loss of more than 150 jobs in the area.

Walker’s failure to create jobs effects all parts of the state, Waunakee company Techline USA also announced it will close the doors to its Waunakee facility, resulting in the loss of more than 90 jobs in the area between June and October.

Walker continues to cherry pick statistics to tout as economic growth by his favored measure, but Wisconsin is falling by the measure of key economic indicators. The state is currently ranked 35th in the nation in job growth, and was 2nd in the nation for job losses in the month of February.
