Statement of WisDems Chair Mike Tate on Susan Happ's Primary Win

Aug 11, 2014

The following is a statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate on Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ winning the Democratic nomination for Attorney General.
“Today, with a strong showing of support for Susan Happ, Wisconsin voters said they are ready for an alternative to the type of Tea Party extremism that has held such a tight grip on justice here in Wisconsin.

“Instead of a commitment to be a voice for the people, the Tea Party’s hand-picked candidate Brad Schimel promises only to be a shill for right-wing special interests.

“From wasting taxpayer time and money defending an unconstitutional law that prevents same-sex couples from getting married, to continuing the Republican crusade to erect barriers to the ballot box for seniors, students, and veterans, Schimel would use the Attorney General’s office to rubberstamp Scott Walker’s radical agenda.

“Thankfully Wisconsin voters in November will reject Schimel’s brand of extremism and instead elect an experienced, independent defender of justice in Susan Happ who will always put our laws and our Constitution above partisan political battles.”
