Bryan Mendoza was charged in Waukesha County in 2006 with second degree sexual assault with the use of force, a Class C felony punishable by up to 40 years in prison, but Schimel reduced the charge to a misdemeanor, having sex with a child 16 or older, and Mendoza pleaded guilty and was placed on 18 months probation.
Mendoza was charged again in 2011 with second degree sexual assault of a child, a Class C felony with penalties of a prison term up to 40 years and a $100,000 fine. He also was charged with a felony for exposing his genitals, a misdemeanor charge of sex with a child 16 or older and a felony charge of interfering with child custody.
Despite the previous conviction, the first two charges were dismissed by Schimel’s office and Mendoza was allowed to plead guilty to the two lesser charges. He was sentenced again to probation, this time for 30 months. It was revoked a year later.
Mendoza is the latest addition to the Brad Schimel Wall of Shame, which highlights Schimel’s dismal record on handling sex offenders and giving special treatment to political allies.
