Wisconsin Democrats are today calling on Assembly Republicans to follow their own rules and cancel the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee’s Speed Dating fundraising event scheduled to be held this evening in Madison.
Today’s event is in direct violation of Assembly Rule 98, which clearly states that “a member may not schedule, hold, attend, or contribute money for or at a fund-raising social event in Dane County during a floorperiod of the legislature…if the event…is sponsored by a legislative campaign committee.”
Yesterday marked the first day of a floorperiod that will not end until Thursday, January 29. The RACC event is scheduled to begin tonight at 5pm at the Concourse Hotel in Madison. Accordingly, any member attending this event should be aware that they could be subject to censure or even expulsion for doing so.
“Robin Vos and the rest of Scott Walker’s Republican Party don’t seem to value the rule of law in Wisconsin and apparently they can’t be bothered with their own rules either,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Wednesday. “The rules set by Assembly Republicans themselves are pretty clear that fundraising events in Dane County during a floorperiod of the legislature are prohibited. If Republicans want to cling to even a shred of good government credibility, Vos needs to do the right thing and call off this event.”
