While Republicans across the country are running away from Donald Trump, here in Wisconsin GOP Congressman Sean Duffy has become his #1 apologist. Rep. Duffy has defended Donald Trump’s hateful, divisive campaign rhetoric at nearly every turn. Duffy even loaned out his own Chief of Staff to run Trump’s campaign here in Wisconsin.
Again and again Duffy has defended Trump’s outrageous actions, from his attacks on the Gold Star Khan family and his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country, to his dangerous suggestion that second amendment supporters should use violence to stop Hillary Clinton from appointing Judges if she wins.
Now, Rep. Duffy has added support for conspiracy theories to the ways in which he’s working to prop up Donald Trump.
Desperate to claw back from a national deficit in the polls, the Trump campaign has begun to espouse wild conspiracy theories from the dark reaches of the Internet, even going so far as to suggesting that Sec. Hillary Clinton’s health is in decline. While most members of the media and elected officials on both sides of the aisle have denounced these ridiculous tactics, Rep. Duffy has fully embraced them.
In a recent interview Duffy openly defended the conspiracy theories, even suggesting that news agencies should be spending more time talking about debunked internet lies. When confronted with facts that contradicted his conspiracy theories, the GOP Congressman was speechless.
“It’s clear that Donald Trump’s #1 apologist Sean Duffy has now become his #1 conspiracy theorist as well,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Brandon Weathersby said. “Instead of talking about the issues that matter most to the people of Northern Wisconsin, Sean Duffy’s top priority seems to be defending Donald Trump and peddling wild internet rumors. He’s clearly lost touch with the people who elected him, and it’s time for a change in the 7th District.
